In the past, I have been guilty of over-diagnosing myself, which I find makes me feel like a victim. On the other hand, I have been guilty of thinking too much about myself and too little about the people around me. I’ve been in the latter category the majority of my life.
A common reason for doing this is to get around the fact that your body is in your head. We all have mental chatter going on all the time, and it can sometimes be hard to tune it out. But there is a way to get around the problem.
I will say that there are good and bad ways to talk to yourself. I personally really like the idea of doing things just to get yourself to do them. But I am also guilty of thinking about myself too much and not enough about others.
To get around this problem I suggest going to the gym and doing some cardio. In a way, this is the opposite of the mental chatter I mentioned above, but you can’t forget about yourself.
Well, that is a nice idea, but it doesn’t work for me because I am a person who gets nervous much of the time. I tend to overthink whether or not I’m doing something, whether or not I’m doing something right, and whether or not I’m doing something wrong. If I’m not, then I get nervous. So I need to be honest with myself about what I’m thinking. That way I can get myself to do something.
I have noticed that the more I can be honest with myself, the more I am able to do things. I can say to myself, “Well, Im doing this for fun, not business, so I can take a second to breathe and maybe do something with my phone instead of my hand.” I can make self-evaluations to myself and I can tell myself what I think is important or not. And I can be honest in my own mind about my mental chatter.
Self-evaluations are a form of critical thinking. We can judge ourselves by looking at our self-image in the mirror or looking at our self-image in our mind. But it’s not only our physical self we can assess, and what we judge to be a positive or negative characteristic of ourselves is also something we can change. For example, we can assess our confidence and decide whether we are or aren’t confident enough to perform a certain task.
The first thing we can do is learn to recognise and work with self-evaluations like this: “What does your body feel like?” and so on.
If you’re a person who doesn’t feel confident enough to perform a task, you have to put a lot of effort into it. If you are, this is a good thing. If you are, you have to put more effort into it and learn to do it.
A lot of self-assessments in games are built around the experience of the player performing the task. They give the player a sense of confidence or power. But a game that tells you how much fun you can have playing the game will also tell you the best way to play the game and what skills you should learn. It’s really about self-awareness.
